Clumber Spaniels are huge dogs with broad and deep chests. Clumber Spaniels are very good hunters and is known as the “Gentleman’s Gun Dog”. Clumber Spaniels are the largest of all spaniels with short legs. It has a huge square head with a brownish or flesh colored nose. The paws are large, fur is of medium length and their tails are generally docked. They have plain white body with lemon or orange markings and the coat is dense, flat and straight. They have slight head markings and freckled muzzle for good retrieving.
The eyes are large, dark amber in color, which are set slightly deep and is well covered with the hair. The coat of these dogs needs to be brushed frequently and a good amount of walking is required to prevent obesity. Clumber spaniel puppies are little more energetic than the adult Clumber Spaniels. Adoption is the only way to get free Clumber spaniel puppies. These dogs can live for about 13 years. The common health problems of the dogs are cataracts, hip dysplasia, disc problems and hypothyroidism. You have to regularly check their ears for infection.
Clumber Spaniels are friendly, intelligent and affectionate and have a tendency to become lazy and destructive, if they are left alone. Clumbers never become friends with strangers. They won’t respond to harsh training methods and great patience is required to train these dogs. They are dedicated, loyal and obedient. Clumber spaniels love to hunt, play and retrieve. These dogs can get along with other dogs and other household animals.
