A breed from Ireland, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is a farm dog that is also a watchdog, hunter, herder and guardian and is lately being used in animal therapy too.
They are friendly and full of energy. Although intelligent, they tend to be obstinate at times. They love their family members and bond quickly. They should be trained in a patient manner. When they see their beloved owner, they greet them with great enthusiasm by jumping up and licking his face.
Appearance
Size: The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is medium sized and muscular ranging anywhere between 17 and 19” high and weighing 14-20 kg.
Coating: The free Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier puppies have a dark coloured coat of brown. These coats later develop into wheat-coloured ones. They may have dark hairs like black or brown over the coat. It has a soft and silky coat. The head is well-proportioned and rectangular with strong jaws. V-shaped ears are usually folded. Dark brown almond shaped eyes make the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier look very attractive. It has a black nose really big in size, padded round feet and a tail that stands upright.
Litter Size
Litter size is upto 8.
Diet
Lamb, barley and potato are the ideal foods. Soy and rice products are to be avoided.
Preferred Environment
They need regular exercise, can live comfortable in an apartment but need a cool environment.
Lifespan
They live till they are 13-14 years and remain healthy and energetic even as they age.
